At Eat Love Give, we hope to be a part of and inspire change in this world. And while we want to encourage people to help others and their community out, we can’t help but continue to be inspired ourselves.
This past June, we learned about a handful of female chefs that came together to host “Ladies Lead,” a sit-down charity event, where 100% of the proceeds were donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). The four course dinner came together after Melissa Montero, the assistant purchasing manager for the Ralph Brennan Restaurant Group, decided she needed to cope with the mass of women coming forward during the #MeToo movement; and her number one coping strategies is giving back. As she has history working with cancer research, LLS was the charity chosen.
As noted by Mayo Clinic, “Leukemia is cancer of the body’s blood-forming tissues, including the bone marrow and the lymphatic system. Many types of leukemia exist. Some forms of leukemia are more common in children. Other forms of leukemia occur mostly in adults.”
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Organization launched in 1949, and since it’s inception they have raised over $1.2 billion for blood cancer research. They are the worlds largest voluntary health agency dedicated to to blood cancer. As stated on their websites, “Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.”
For us, this is such an important organization to work with as cancer does not discriminate. It can affect anyone, at any point in time. We hope that with our latest donation to LLS, we are able to bring more awareness to such an amazing organization in addition to help with their efforts.
